On October 11, 2018, the global Girl Up community joined hands and celebrated the International Day of the Girl. The Southeast TX Coalition asked people to make signs of who their #GirlHERO is and compiled them into a video celebrating women and girls shaping lives (tinyurl.com/girlupidg18).

Our second Action Advocacy Day successfully wrote letters to Senator Cornyn and Senator Cruz about S. 1580 with Amanaah Refugee Services, an organization dedicated to integrating resettled refugees into their new homes and and the Houston community.

This past weekend, the Southeast TX Coalition was incredibly fortunate to be able to attend the first stop of the Girl Up STEM For Social Good Tour at Houston, Texas.

With a group of about 12 kids at Fort Bend Women's Center's shelter, we led a series of STEM activities involving color to keep the children entertained and curious about how beautiful experiments and structures come about with science.

Advocacy Action Day successfully taught young advocates in the Houston area the importance of using their voice while advocating for S. 1580.

We led this activity with the children of female victims at the Fort Bend Women’s Shelter, hoping to provide a fun outlet for them.

On April 14, the Girl Up Southeast Texas Coalition held a booth on gender issues at Travis High School's annual FBISD Global Issues Summit.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we talked to the children of Fort Bend Women’s Center about who their personal heroes are and what it means to be a hero. We read a few pages out of the “Rad Women A-to-Z” book that zeroed in on some #SHEROES throughout history who made the impossible possible.

Over the next few months, the Girl Up Southeast Texas Coalition will be partnering with Fort Bend Women's Center for domestically abused women, to bring projects to educate and inspire the children in the shelter. Our first project was craft-tastic!

The Southeast Texas Coalition took part in an event that Girl Up Houston hosted highlighting the reality of domestic violence in our community and participated in a service social making holiday and encouragement cards for the women of Fort Bend Women's Center.

Our Coalition took a trip to the Fort Bend Women's Center, an incredible organization geared towards aiding survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse, at their Santa Store.

The Southeast TX Coalition kicked off its start with a meeting filled with games, educational activities, advocacy cards, and Sunita Rao, Campaign Associate for all of Girl Up, as a guest speaker!
