Fort Bend Women's Center: STEM and Colors

About the Event

With a group of about 12 kids at Fort Bend Women's Center's shelter, we led a series of STEM activities involving color to keep the children entertained and curious about how beautiful experiments and structures come about with science. First, we led a skittle activity where they each had a paper plate that they filled with any sort of pattern of skittles; they then poured some water into the plate and watched as the colors bled off the candies, formed patterns, and mixed together. Next, we led a kid-favorite activity: making colorful slime! After we explained the ingredients of making slime, they paired up and made their own glue-borax slime of any color of their choosing. With both the skittles and the slime, several ran off to show their mothers the colorful products. After this, we switched gears to a more free-for-all session with colorful popsicle sticks and other materials: some made bridge structures, others made their name out of sticks, and others had their nails painted! Thank you to all of the children for making this experience so heart-warming!
