Fort Bend Women's Center: Autism Awareness Month

About the Event

We led this activity with the children of female victims at the Fort Bend Women’s Shelter, hoping to provide a fun outlet for them. We started off with a science activity where the kids designed and created paper airplanes with our help. After they were done, we held a paper airplane race to see whose design was the best, and they were then able to improve their airplane for a second round. After this, we switched gears to a puzzle art activity in honor of Autism Awareness Month. After we described Autism to the kids, they painted puzzle pieces and glued them together in the shapes they desired. Throughout the session, the kids were able to express themselves through their airplane designs and puzzle art, and they let out more than a few laughs.
